Heygreen Primary is proud to announce that as a school we have recently (March 2015) been awarded with the ‘Healthy School Award’. This is in recognition of the school providing a comprehensive, well-balanced ‘healthy lifestyles’ curriculum.
This is our Healthy School Council which were elected in January 2015. Since being elected, the council have launched a healthy packed lunch poster competition, spoke to the children regarding the quality of school dinners, created a favourite school meal display and are currently working on a travel plan to encourage more children to walk or cycle to school during the Summer term.
As part of our healthy school curriculum, every year the children participate in a 10 week block of class assemblies, which teaches the children about having a healthy lifestyle.

This morning Year 5 pupils, along with other children from across the school, took part in a ‘Ready Steady Cook’ challenge run by Chartwells.
The children, who were supported by our very own Miss Goll (Year 5) and Miss Lambert (Year 1), were tasked to make a healthy but tasty meal within fifteen minutes using the ingredients available in front of them. As a school, we also learnt lots of amazing information about healthy food options and how they can improve our health. The Red Team made a wonderful coconut chicken curry with couscous, while the Green Team produced mouthwatering barbecue vegetable raps and spicy rice.
